YouGuang Purchases Its Richmond Hill Main Campus Property

02,Mar,2026

On March 2, 2026, YouGuang officially completed the purchase of its Richmond Hill Main Campus property.

Located near the border of Richmond Hill and Markham, close to Highway 7 and Leslie Street, the approximately 5,000-square-foot school-owned property marks an important milestone in YouGuang’s development. (有光中文学校)

Since its founding in 2022, Youguang has focused on building for the long term—developing a stable curriculum, a strong teaching team, and a growing community of students and families. Purchasing our own campus is a natural extension of that commitment. (有光中文学校)

From Classrooms to a Campus of Our Own

A school needs more than curriculum, teachers, and students. It also needs a space that can support its educational vision.

Rented classrooms may meet basic teaching needs, but they often limit how a school can design, improve, and develop its learning environment over time.

At YouGuang, we wanted more than a collection of classrooms. We wanted a campus where Mandarin learning, reading, communication, drama, arts, movement, and meaningful childhood experiences could all come together.

Owning our own property allows us to plan and improve the campus according to our educational philosophy, while giving families a stable and long-term home for learning. (有光中文学校)

5,000 Square Feet Designed for Learning and Growth

The Richmond Hill Main Campus offers approximately 5,000 square feet of space, with different areas designed to support different aspects of children’s learning and development.

The upper level is primarily dedicated to Mandarin instruction, providing bright, comfortable classrooms for focused learning.

The lower level has been transformed into the YouGuang Theatre and a children’s fitness and activity space. (有光中文学校)

We believe Mandarin learning should not happen only at a desk.

Children need opportunities to read and think, but also to speak, perform, move, collaborate, and experience the language in real situations.

When these different forms of learning come together in one campus, education becomes more than a weekly class—it becomes part of a child’s broader development.

YouGuang Theatre: A Stage for Every Child

The YouGuang Theatre is an important part of the Richmond Hill campus.

Drama, public speaking, hosting, and stage performance have long been integrated into Youguang’s approach to language education. We believe the value of language is not measured only by how many Chinese characters a child recognizes, but by whether they can use that language to tell stories, communicate ideas, understand others, and express themselves with confidence.

Through events such as YouGuang Night, classroom drama productions, and speaking activities, students have already had opportunities to perform on professional stages.

Now, with a theatre of our own, stage experience can become a more regular part of everyday learning. Students can rehearse, practise public speaking, perform smaller productions, and gradually build confidence through repeated opportunities to step in front of an audience. (有光中文学校)

We do not believe the stage should belong only to naturally outgoing children.

Quiet children, shy children, and children who are just beginning their Mandarin journey deserve opportunities to be seen, encouraged, and heard as well.

Owning a Campus Means a Long-Term Commitment

Purchasing a school property is more than an investment in real estate.

For us, it is an investment in education and a commitment to the future.

It means choosing to put down roots and continuing to invest in our campus, curriculum, teacher development, and the experiences we create for children.

For families, a permanent campus provides stability and allows programs and activities to be planned with a much longer horizon.

For teachers, it becomes a professional environment where teaching experience, curriculum, and educational practice can continue to develop.

And for children, it becomes a familiar place where memories accumulate over many years. (有光中文学校)

Some children may recognize their first Chinese character here.

They may finish their first Chinese book, deliver their first speech, perform their first role, or stand at centre stage for the first time and hear an audience applaud.

These moments may seem small, but together they become part of a child’s relationship with Mandarin, culture, confidence, and growing up.

A Campus Built for the Long Term

Purchasing the Richmond Hill Main Campus does not mean the work is finished.

In many ways, it means the next stage has only begun.

We will continue to improve the campus, strengthen our Mandarin curriculum, expand opportunities in communication and drama, and create richer cultural experiences for children. (有光中文学校)

Years from now, we hope students will still remember the classrooms where they learned, the stage where they rehearsed, the friends they worked with, and the first moment they found the courage to speak in front of others.

A meaningful school should be more than a place where knowledge is taught.

It should become part of a child’s childhood.

The purchase of our Richmond Hill Main Campus is an important milestone in YouGuang’s journey—and a long-term commitment to the families we serve:

to put down roots, to keep investing, and to build a Mandarin school that children can truly grow with.

Let growth happen at YouGuang.
