Our Richmond Hill Main Campus is located near the border of Richmond Hill and Markham, at:

The campus is conveniently located for families from Richmond Hill, Markham, and surrounding communities. The area is easy to access by car, and ample parking makes drop-off and pick-up convenient for parents.

The campus occupies approximately 5,000 square feet of school-owned space. Having our own long-term facility allows us to plan the environment around children’s learning and development, rather than simply placing Chinese classes inside a few temporary rented classrooms.

The Richmond Hill main campus offers a systematic Chinese-language program for children ages 4–16, from early literacy through Level 8, including advanced reading and writing.

A Mandarin Campus Built Like a School

Our Richmond Hill campus is not designed as a typical after-school tutoring centre.

From the physical environment and curriculum to school culture and student experiences, we have built the campus with the standards and mindset of a high-quality school.

In addition to spacious, bright classrooms, the campus includes:

A Complete Mandarin Learning Path

The Richmond Hill Main Campus offers a complete learning pathway from early childhood Mandarin through advanced levels, with programs designed for different ages, language backgrounds, and levels of proficiency.

Early Years Mandarin

Designed for young children at the beginning of their Mandarin learning journey.

Classes build interest, listening and speaking skills, and early character recognition through stories, songs, games, interaction, and age-appropriate activities.

The goal is to help children develop a positive relationship with Mandarin while gradually building a strong foundation in language and literacy.

Level 1–Level 8 Mandarin Program

YouGuang has developed its own complete set of level-based textbooks and curriculum from Level 1 through Level 8.

Beginning in Level 1, students typically learn approximately 300 Chinese characters each academic year, while progressively developing:

* Reading comprehension

* Vocabulary and language use

* Chinese writing

* Spoken expression

* Logical communication

* Chinese culture

* Higher-level reading and thinking skills

As students advance, the focus gradually moves beyond recognizing characters toward reading independently, writing effectively, and expressing increasingly complex ideas in Mandarin.

Our goal is not simply for children to memorize more characters, but to build Mandarin skills they can genuinely use and continue developing over the long term.

Accelerated Program for Older Beginners

For students age 10 and above whose Mandarin level is currently below their age and cognitive ability, the Richmond Hill campus offers an accelerated program.

Older children often have stronger reasoning, comprehension, and learning skills than younger beginners, so there is no need for them to progress at exactly the same pace as an early elementary learner.

The accelerated program is designed so that students can typically complete two years of the standard curriculum within one academic year.

The focus is on efficiently building essential character recognition, reading, and expression skills so that older students can move more quickly toward a Mandarin level that better matches their age and intellectual development.

Mandarin for Non-Mandarin-Speaking Families

We also offer dedicated Mandarin programs for children who do not speak Mandarin at home or who are beginning with little or no Mandarin background.

These classes do not assume that students already understand or speak Mandarin. Learning begins with practical communication, everyday vocabulary, listening comprehension, and familiar situations, before gradually introducing Chinese characters, reading, and expression.

This program is particularly suitable for:

* English-speaking families

* Multilingual or mixed-language families

* Cantonese-speaking families

* Families who use languages other than Mandarin at home

* Children beginning Mandarin from zero

Public Speaking & Hosting

Learning a language should eventually lead to confident communication.

Our Public Speaking & Hosting program uses recitation, storytelling, hosting, spontaneous speaking, and stage training to help children develop:

* Stronger Mandarin speaking skills

* Clearer organization of ideas

* Stage presence

* Confidence speaking in front of others

* Communication and improvisation skills

We want children not only to “know Mandarin,” but to be able to use it clearly, confidently, and expressively.

Drama Program

Drama is an important part of the YouGuang educational experience.

Through characters, dialogue, movement, storytelling, and stage performance, children use Mandarin in meaningful situations. The language becomes part of a story and an emotional experience rather than remaining only on the page.

The Richmond Hill Main Campus has its own theatre and performance stage, allowing students to experience the complete process from classroom training and rehearsal to live performance.

Drama education helps children develop not only stronger Mandarin expression, but also:

From the Classroom to the Stage

Each year, the Richmond Hill campus hosts a variety of school activities, student showcases, drama productions, cultural events, and our large annual performance, YouGuang Night.

We believe children should have a real stage of their own.

For a child, standing under the lights, performing for an audience, and confidently delivering a line can become a lasting memory—one that may have far more impact than completing another page of homework.
