On September 12, YouGuang Chinese School’s Richmond Hill Main Campus officially begins the 2026–2027 school year.

A new school year means new classrooms, new students, and another opportunity to help children build strong and lasting Chinese language skills.

At YouGuang, we believe learning Chinese should go beyond memorizing isolated characters or phrases. Children need a systematic and continuous learning pathway that gradually develops character recognition, vocabulary, reading, writing, and expression.

That is why our curriculum begins with Chinese foundation classes for young learners and continues through Chinese Levels 1–8, providing students with a clear long-term learning path.

Building Strong Chinese Foundations from an Early Age

For younger learners, our goal is first to develop interest, confidence, and familiarity with Chinese.

Through systematic character learning, repetition, and carefully designed reading materials, children gradually move from recognizing individual Chinese characters to understanding sentences, reading passages, and eventually reading independently.

As students progress through higher levels, reading, writing, vocabulary, and expression become increasingly integrated.

Our goal is not simply for children to learn more Chinese in the short term. We want them to develop the ability to continue learning Chinese year after year.

Chinese Is a Language to Be Used

At YouGuang, Chinese learning extends beyond textbooks.

Reading, classroom discussion, storytelling, presentations, performances, and cultural activities all create opportunities for students to actively use the language they are learning.

We want Chinese to become more than a school subject. We want it to become a language children can use to read, think, communicate, express themselves, and connect with their families and cultural heritage.

A New Year Begins

This September, we are welcoming both returning students and many families joining YouGuang for the first time.

Education takes time, consistency, and commitment.

We look forward to continuing this journey together with our students and families throughout the 2026–2027 school year.
